Sutton Theatre Company’s Aladdin: A Magical Night of Laughter and Generosity
A Novel Way to Support Local Families
In December 2012, Sutton Theatre Company brought a burst of colour, comedy, and community spirit to Bishop Sutton with their lively production of Aladdin. But this wasn’t just a night at the theatre — it became a wonderfully imaginative way to support The Carpenters Foodstore.
When tickets went out, they included something extra: our shopping list.
Audience members were invited to bring donations and fill as many treasure chests as they could. And they rose to the challenge with enthusiasm.
Treasure Chests Overflowing
On the night of the performance, families and theatre goers arrived carrying tins, pac
kets, and treats — all ready to be added to the growing piles of food. By the end of the evening, a fantastic 82.06kg had been collected.
It was a brilliant example of how creativity can inspire generosity.
The cast brought the magic on stage, and the audience brought the magic off it.
A Night of Hilarity (and Many Groans!)
Our volunteers were lucky enough to attend the performance, enjoying an evening filled with laughter, pantomime chaos, and the kind of groan worthy jokes only Aladdin can deliver. It was a joyful reminder of how community events can lift spirits while making a real difference.
